Fred Williams

Fred Williams, Principal at Susie Dasher Elementary School (K-1) in Dublin, Ga.

 

Last year (2006-07) was the first year for Classworks, and Principal Fred Williams' students responded, passing the Criterion-Referenced Competency Test (CRCT) at 92 percent in Reading/ English/Language Arts and Math. Mr. Williams spoke to Curriculum Advantage in January 2008.

 

"...we have made AYP for nine years straight and we're working very hard to make it 10 years in a row. Classworks is one thing that has really captured their attention, letting us really focus in on certain skills that they need."

Title I School Honored for Superior Achievement under National Recognition Program

Jefferson Elementary School in York, S.C., is one of six Title I public schools in that state to be recognized for superior student achievement.

 

Jefferson, which has been using Classworks for a little over a year, received honorable mention status from the South Carolina Department of Education for "Reducing the Achievement Gap" in October. In addition to the academic distinction, the school received a cash award of $25,000.

Georgia Teacher of the Year Lauds Classworks

Emily Jennette, second-grade teacher at Sawyer Road Elementary, was named the 2008 Georgia Teacher of the Year. Jennette was the Marietta City Schools' Teacher of the Year for 2006-07.

 

"Emily Jennette is the only elementary grades teacher among the ten finalists, and is one of 147 local district teachers of the year who applied for the state-wide honor," said Dr. Emily Lembeck, Marietta City Schools Superintendent. "We are very proud of all our teachers, however, today Emily Jennette makes us especially proud."

Salt Lake City high school students show marked improvement on UBSCT

James Andersen, the principal at Salt Lake City's Horizonte Instruction and Training Center, immediately saw a difference when his students walked out of the testing center after taking the Utah Basic Skills Competency Test (UBSCT).

 

"In previous years," Andersen said, "it was like a morgue. They looked like they were beat up."

 

This year was different, though, and Andersen could see it in the students' demeanor as they walked out.

Classworks Superintendents earn Tech-Savvy Superintendent Awards

The Tech-Savvy Superintendent Awards, conducted by eSchool News, honors those superintendents who embrace the move toward an increasingly digital society and the emergence of a new era of accountability in the nation's schools. 

 

The eighth annual presentation of the honors announced in the Feb. 5 edition of eSchool News recognizes just 10 of the nation's top K-12 executives for their outstanding ed-tech leadership and vision, including Ron Saunders, from Barrow County School District in Georgia, who has overseen Classworks implementations in his schools.

 

Among the other winners, three -- Randy Aceveda of  Monroe County School District, Fla., William A. Hamilton of Walled Lake School District, Mich., and Abelardo Saavedra from the Houston Independent School District, Texas - all have Classworks in their schools.

 

Curriculum Advantage is proud to congratulate Saunders, Aceveda, Hamilton and Saavedra on their Tech-Savvy Superintendent Award.
